My nephew is a Jedi!

So you're telling me that this little guy is six now??? (And yes, this is one of the first Images by Elizabeth pictures!) I feel so old!

My nephew is turning 6! I'm 20! But the most surprising thing of all, is that my six year old nephew is a jedi!! Joe LOVES star wars, and if you don't believe me, you can ask his parents how much he has watched it in the last few months! I think one of the first times Joe watched it my mom and I were babysitting him and it was on TV. My mom told Joe that his dad used to watch it all the time when he was little. Joe showed some interest in it but his favorite thing was trying to imitate Chewbacca (and I'd have to say it was pretty funny).

Since then, Joe has watched all the star wars, knows almost all the characters names, and for Christmas I think ALL of his toys were star wars!

Joe's mom asked me if we could meet up sometime to do a Star Wars themed birthday shoot and I was so excited! Joe's favorite person right now is Obi Wan Kenobi, so my mom and sister-in-law made him a jedi costume for our pictures.

Here are a few pictures from our session! Enjoy!

And of course we had to get some with Courtney too! Like always, she wasn't too cooperative when it came to picture time.

The Lost Art

I am a digital kinda person. Yes, my very first camera was a simple point and shoot film camera, but THEN I got my cool, awesome, amazing, point and shoot digital camera! Then I got a film SLR camera and finally upgraded to a digital SLR camera. At that point I thought I was done with film and wouldn't have to think about it ever again! Until I started this semester and had to take a black and white film class. I feel so lost in the film world. I always try and check the back of my camera to see what my picture looks like, but I soon find that 1- there isn't a picture on the back of my camera and 2- I look like a complete idiot because I'm looking for a picture on the back of a film camera!

I have an assignment due at the end of this week and I have been racking my brain for the past week trying to think of ideas. I think of this great picture with great light and amazing colors, but soon realize that it will only be black and white, no colors. To live in a digital world and teach yourself to see in black and white is a difficult task, let me tell you!

I'm not saying that I hate film or I hate black and white photography. It's just a whole new world to me!

So here it is...

Waitin' for spring

Yesterday Scott and I went out to a local park to try out his new battery pack he got for his flash. He asked me if I would mind being the model for the day so he could try it out (which I'd have to say I don't work well on the other side of the camera, so now I would like to thank all of my models for their amazing work, I now know how hard it is to be you, you are all amazing!!)

Scott was wearing an old baseball shirt of his and before we left he said "This shirt makes me want to play baseball!!" I told him I had my mitt in my car and he smiled at me and went to his closet to find his mitt.

We didn't play catch long because it was getting dark and we were both getting cold (and Scott's cold was starting to kick in) so we decided to quit and pack up.

The whole time we were there, I couldn't wait for spring so we'd have nice weather to shoot in and play some summertime baseball!!

First try at Canasta

My family is the family who plays cards at every family gathering. My immediate family does a puzzle most holidays but when we get together with the whole extended family we play pitch. Besides pitch, rummy, go fish, and slap jack, I don't know too many card games, but the other night I added one more game to my list.

Scott asked me the other night, "You don't have any plans for tonight do you?", I replied "No....why?" and he said, "Good, we're going to play Canasta!"

I had heard of Canasta before but had never learned how to play it so Scott, his mom, and dad all taught me how to play. It was a couples battle since Scott and I were on a team against his mom and dad. Since I was a new comer to the game, they kept the trash talking to a minimum, but I think by the end of the game I was the worst one when it came to the trash talking. I think I had a little bit of beginners luck as Scott and I stole the win!

To Do List

It has just been one of those days!
I started my morning at 7 o'clock (which for me, is early!) and I have been going non-stop all day. I have a list in my planner the size of China of all the things I had to do today. But I felt like every time I crossed one thing off I had another one to add to it!
I finally got home at 10 and the only thing on my mind was the to-do list calling my name. (and yes, my planner is color coordinated, thank you for asking =p) All I can think is I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday!!

The Little Giant

Another image, and hopefully the last one, for my current graphic design project. This image will be compared to my city skyline from the first few days of my 365 project. My goal with this comparison is to show Denver, such a big city, yet taking up so little of the frame, compared to a tack, something so small and minuscule, yet looking very big and over powering.

Residence hall

Today I worked on some more pictures for my graphics design project (which will hopefully be done soon!) and I did some shots outside and I came back inside and was walking down the hall in my dorm (Residence hall) and got about halfway down the hall, stopped, backed up, and took this shot. I took a shot similar to this in a tunnel on campus (some of you may have seen it in my folder for my graphics project on my Facebook) and I thought I would get this shot for a possibility of a 'homier' version of that shot. So here it is.

Ten minutes with Aurelia

I saw my roommate today for more than 5 minutes!! Aurelia has been in a performance for the last two weeks and has had rehearsals since the beginning of the semester. Both of us have been so busy we have hardly had time to see each other. So today when I got to see her for about ten minutes it felt extremely weird. Since I got to see her today I felt that it was a photographic moment

Here is my favorite shot from the day.

Steam punk session with Trish

What an amazing day!!

I met Tricia on the first day of my second semester freshman year and from the first day I was amazed by her life stories, personality, and beauty. She is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had and she is even more amazing outside of the classroom.

She had asked me if I would do some pictures of her for a 'Steam punk' conference she is going to and showed me some pictures of what she was looking for. I had no idea what steam punk was so I had to do some research. I knew it would be something completely different from what I normally do but I was so ready! I think both of us were like little kids waiting for Santa to come!

We thought it was supposed to snow today but we got lucky and just got some clouds, but the lighting was perfect! Although it was cold and windy it was an amazing day for me. Trish and I ended up spending about 4 hours trying different outfits, locations, and poses and I loved every second of it!! I even got some new locations for future shoots! =)

She was such a beautiful model to photograph and I didn't want it to end. She was so cooperative and ready to do whatever! Thanks Trish for the amazing day!

Here are a few photos from our session. And I should tell you that selecting favorites for this session was extremely hard, I just wanted to post them all!!

Don't worry, the gun was not loaded.

Reflecting

I love spring! And what I love more than spring is winter days in February that feel like spring. Those days make me really happy =)

Scott came up for a few hours yesterday before heading off to shoot a wedding so we went out to get lunch and then decided to head to this park and walk around since it was so nice out. We walked around this lake/pond/body of water before finding this spot. I've got to this park many times and sat in this same spot by myself just taking in the beauty of the space but it was even better this time as I sat with Scott and talked about life. I sat and stared at this scene as we talking about childhood memories, school, friends, and life.

Long boarding adventures

I think spring is about a month early this year. I don't remember it being this nice in February. Maybe it has been this nice but I just don't remember it! The last few months have been so busy for me that when I didn't have anything to do yesterday afternoon, I didn't know what to do with myself! So what better to do than take pictures outside in this beautiful weather??

Craig and I had met up back in November to do a long boarding session but we didn't meet up until later in the afternoon so we didn't have much time before the sunset. So yesterday I asked Craig if he was up for a redo session!

We met up on campus and spent almost an hour trying out different shots and messing around. Here are a few shots from our session

And Rachael came along to watch!

Craig's friend Ryan came along too and has been boarding for a while but hasn't done much sliding so he stole Craig's gloves and tried it a few times.

Sometimes you have to fall a few times.....
(sorry Ryan, I just had to put it up!)

Believe

A few months ago my friend and I got bracelets from the Buckle and all the proceeds went to charity. The bracelet is a leather band that wraps around your wrist and on it are words like "Give back", "Speak Kindness", "Forgive" and many others.

When I first got the bracelet I would often look at it like it was giving me words of advice. I wear it so much now that it's at the point where I don't even look at the words on it anymore. I just put it on and go on with my day. Today part of it broke in the middle of my graphic design class. I was having a rough time in class with my project and I was starting to lose faith in myself. The first word I looked at when it broke was "believe", like it was talking to me.

I tend to lose faith in myself sometimes when I feel like no one else is there to support me. I know I still have so many people helping me out and looking out for me but there are those times that I feel like I'm fighting for myself, alone. I've realized that all I have to do is believe in them to be there because I know they are there, I'm just letting myself think they aren't. When really, they've been there all along.
